The arms are where age shows its hand most clearly in body contouring. Two women can send us almost identical photos of the backs of their upper arms. One of them is thirty. The other is fifty-five. You'd struggle to tell their arms apart on screen, but we'd very likely recommend a different operation to each.
The fat isn't what separates them. Their skin is. So this page on arm liposuction in Turkey is organised by stage of life, which is roughly how skin quality changes, and what each stage tends to need.
Twenties and thirties: mostly fat
At this age it's usually inherited. Mothers and daughters often send us photos showing the same arms. It sits between armpit and elbow, and being slim or going to the gym doesn't shift it. What gets called bingo wings, the wobble when you wave, is fat here rather than loose skin. Plenty of people come to us after years of tricep dips. Good for the muscle. No use against the fat on top of it.
Younger arm skin has spring left in it. With the fat removed, the skin contracts by itself. You end up with a slimmer arm and a couple of tiny marks, and the change usually lasts.
Forties: it depends
Forties are where it gets harder to call. Some have skin that's still springy at forty-five. Some don't, particularly after babies or a weight swing. Two women of the same age can land on opposite sides of that line. We look more carefully at forty-somethings than at anyone else.
If the skin is still firm, liposuction does the job. If it's only slightly lax, liposuction can sometimes be combined with the J-Plasma treatment, priced at €1,500, which encourages a little extra tightening. If the skin already hangs, extra energy won't change that, and we'll say so.
Fifties and beyond: often skin
By this stage, the soft fold at the back of the arm is often more skin than fat. Take the fat out from under it and the skin just hangs emptier, so the arm can look looser and more crêpey than before.
For the majority at this age, the operation that actually helps is an arm lift. It removes a strip of skin along the inner arm and usually includes some liposuction as well. Not everyone over fifty needs a lift, though. Some people have excellent skin into their sixties, and they do very well with liposuction alone.
After major weight loss
Age matters less here than the amount of weight lost. After a large weight loss, through diet or weight loss surgery, arm skin has often been stretched for years and can't shrink back fully. Even in people in their twenties or thirties, that usually means an arm lift rather than liposuction.
We'd also want your weight to have been stable for several months before planning either operation. Arms change shape for some time after the scales settle.
Liposuction or an arm lift?
The two cost almost the same on our list. Liposuction of both arms is €3,100. An arm lift is €3,200. So the price makes no real difference, and the decision comes down to the skin.
The real difference is the scar. With liposuction you're left with two or three tiny marks, near the elbow and in the armpit, and they're hard to find a year on. An arm lift scar runs down the inner arm, from armpit towards elbow. We put it where it shows least, and it pales over the first year. It doesn't disappear, though, and short sleeves or a raised arm will reveal it. Some people decide that's a fair trade for a much firmer arm. Others decide to live with a little looseness instead. Both are reasonable choices, and we'll show you photos of healed scars before you make yours.
The armpit and the side of the bra
Then there's the little cushion just in front of the armpit, beside the bra cup. It's what bulges over the edge of a strapless dress. Even in a sleeveless top it makes the join between arm and chest look thick. This area is usually treated with the upper arm, and the skin there tends to tighten well.
If the roll continues round to the back, along the bra strap, that part belongs to the back. Our back liposuction page covers it, and the two areas are often planned together.
Combining arms with other areas
Arms are often part of a wider plan. The bra line and upper back are the most natural partners, since the fat runs from one into the other. Some women add the abdomen or flanks in the same session. Each area adds a zone to the count, and the total goes to our anaesthetist for review before booking, so a large plan may be split across two visits.
Arm liposuction for men
Men rarely bring up their arms, and usually only when the upper arm looks soft compared with the chest and shoulders. Fat on men's arms is often firmer, so ultrasound with VASER liposuction can help. Most men with soft arms are better served by building the muscle underneath first, since a well-trained arm reshapes the same skin far more than removing a thin layer of fat. A few, usually older men, have the same loose skin women do, and the rule doesn't change: skin needs removing, not suction.
After arm liposuction
The upper arm ends up slimmer, with less wobble and a cleaner line down to the elbow. Sleeves stop feeling tight. Bare arms in summer stop being something to plan around.
Photos are often where the change is most obvious. An arm pressed against the body flattens and spreads sideways, and a slimmer upper arm spreads far less. Not hiding at the back of group photos any more is a change people often mention.
What liposuction can't do is firm skin that has already lost its spring, or reduce muscle. The forearm isn't usually treated, since it rarely holds much fat and the skin there is thin. If you want the whole arm to look smaller, the upper arm is where nearly all of the change will come from.
How it's done
General anaesthetic is used. Fluid goes into the arm before anything else. Then the fat comes out through tiny cuts by the elbow and in the armpit. Every side of the upper arm gets treated, not only the back, so it looks right from any angle. We take most of the fat from deep down and leave a thin, even padding under the skin. That padding is what stops dents.
What can go wrong
Usually, not much. The back of the arm has thin skin, so taking too much from one patch could show as a dip. The padding we leave is there to prevent that. A collection of fluid now and then needs draining at a follow-up visit. Numb patches are common for a while and usually recover.
Nerves run close to the armpit, and the work there is kept in the fat layer to stay clear of them. Serious problems are rare. Calf pumps run while you're asleep and you're walking soon after, both to keep clots away. The surgical team, not the booking, decides your flight date.
Arm liposuction recovery
You'll be walking that same evening and spend the night in hospital. A compression sleeve or garment covering the upper arms is worn for about four to six weeks.
The surprise for many people is the swelling lower down. Gravity pulls the fluid downhill. Forearms, wrists and fingers puff up, sometimes for a fortnight, though nobody touched them. Keep your arms up on a pillow. Rings need to come off before the operation, and your watch can stay in the suitcase.
Desk jobs are fine within a week or so. Expect some stiffness at the keyboard and behind the wheel early on. Lifting, gym work and anything that strains the arms wait four to six weeks. The final shape shows after three to six months.
Will the result last?
Fat cells we remove don't grow back. Hold your weight steady and the arm keeps its new shape. Skin keeps ageing, though. Someone who's ideal for liposuction at forty may find their arm skin looser at sixty, and that would be an arm lift question rather than more liposuction.
Arm liposuction cost in Turkey
An upper arm counts as one zone on our list, running from the armpit to just above the elbow, so the pad beside the bra cup is included. One arm is €2,500 and both arms are €3,100. VASER adds €500 where the fat is fibrous, and J-Plasma €1,500 where the skin is borderline. Your trip to Istanbul runs to four nights, and the night after surgery is in hospital. An arm lift, at €3,200, needs six nights.
For the same operation, the comparison table shows UK prices of €5,200 to €6,100 and an American average near €5,450. Flights and a hotel don't come close to closing that gap.
Choosing a clinic for arm liposuction in Turkey
Arms are easy to quote for and easy to get wrong. Any clinic worth booking will ask to see your arms lifted, not hanging. You should get a written view on whether your skin suits liposuction or needs a lift. Where a lift is on the table, a twelve-month scar photo tells you more than a six-week one. And a price without "one arm" or "both arms" next to it isn't really a price.
Arm liposuction before and after photos
The best arm photos are taken from behind with the arms raised to shoulder height, which is where loose skin and fat both show most. Before and after pairs should match in pose and light, and include a side shot. A hanging arm photographs slimmer than it really is.
Wait for reviews written from three months on, by people who've lived with the result. Before that, swollen arms and hands blur the picture.
What to send
We need your upper arms from behind and from one side, raised to shoulder height and then hanging loose. A note on your age, weight and any recent big changes helps too. One of our Istanbul surgeons will then say whether your skin points to arm liposuction in Turkey, an arm lift, or a bit of both.
