Chin surgery answers two different problems. An implant adds projection over the bone you already have; a genioplasty moves the bone itself, in whichever direction the shape needs. The examination decides which.

A silicone implant sits over the chin bone you already have and is fixed with two screws, which is what keeps it from moving. The profile comes forward, no bone is divided, and the device can be exchanged or removed later. What it cannot do is change the bone's length, width or symmetry.

Yes — and the thing to verify is genioplasty. Plenty of clinics place implants; far fewer reposition bone. Ask which of the two the surgeon does most, and ask before you have been given a recommendation.

Chin surgery changes the size, shape or position of the chin to improve facial balance. It is performed either by cutting and repositioning the chin bone, known as sliding genioplasty, or by placing an implant over the bone to increase forward projection. The right method depends on the direction and amount of change needed.
A chin implant mainly adds forward projection and suits people whose chin is simply small or slightly receding. Genioplasty moves your own bone and can bring the chin forward, back, up, down or sideways, so it suits larger changes, asymmetry or cases where vertical length needs adjusting.
Often, yes. A weak chin can make the nose appear larger in profile. Increasing chin projection balances the lower face, which is why chin surgery is sometimes combined with rhinoplasty, or recommended instead of it, when the real imbalance lies in the chin.
