Gastric botox is the smallest thing we do for weight. No cut, no device left behind, and the effect wears off by itself within about six months. People often come to it after a doctor at home has said they're "not heavy enough" for surgery, yet the scales keep creeping the wrong way.
That smallness is the appeal, and it's also the catch. The section above covers how the injection slows your stomach down. This part is about everything that decides whether a gastric botox in Turkey is worth the trip. Who it's for, how it stacks up against a balloon or weight loss injections, the safety questions you should ask any clinic, what gastric botox before and after photos really show, and the price.
The same toxin as cosmetic botox, in a very different place
Yes, it's botulinum toxin, the same family of drug people have injected to smooth forehead lines. The difference is where it goes. We reach the stomach from the inside, with an endoscope, and inject into its muscle wall. So if you're picturing a quick jab at a salon, this is something else entirely, done by a doctor with a camera inside you.
Your stomach churns food and pushes it on bit by bit. Botox makes those muscles lazy for a while. Dinner hangs around longer, and you stay full on less. Your stomach stays the size it always was, though. Once the body has cleared the toxin out, everything works exactly as before.
Who gastric botox suits, and who it doesn't
The published range is a BMI of 27 to 35. Below that there usually isn't a medical reason to do it. Above it, the effect is small compared with what a balloon or surgery would achieve, and we'll tell you that before you book flights.
The people who do best with it tend to eat decent meals, just big ones. Feeling full sooner is precisely their problem, so it helps. It does far less for someone whose extra calories come in a glass, or out of the biscuit tin at ten at night.
A few people shouldn't have it at all. Pregnancy and breastfeeding rule it out. The same goes for some conditions that affect nerves and muscles. Myasthenia gravis is the one doctors will ask about by name. We'll also want to hear if botulinum toxin has ever disagreed with you, even at a cosmetic clinic, and about any operation you've had on your stomach.
Choosing between gastric botox and a balloon
These two get compared constantly, since neither involves surgery. A gastric balloon works by being there. It's filled once it's inside you and simply occupies space, leaving less room for food. It usually produces more weight loss than botox does. It also comes with a rougher first few days, as the stomach gets used to it, and it has to be taken out or pass at a set time.
Botox is gentler on both counts. Nothing's in there, so there's nothing to remove. The trade-off is that it does less. For a BMI around 30 who mostly needs a nudge, botox can be enough. Closer to 35, the balloon usually makes more sense, and above that it's worth reading about the gastric sleeve.
Gastric botox vs weight loss injections
Plenty of people now weigh this up against the weekly injections, semaglutide and similar drugs, that work on appetite through hormones. Those are prescription medicines. You keep taking them for as long as you want the effect, and the research behind them is much larger than for gastric botox.
Botox is a single procedure with a fixed end date. Some people prefer that. Others find a weekly pen easier to live with than an endoscopy abroad. If you're already on one of those medicines, or thinking about starting, tell us, since your doctor and ours should agree on how the two fit together.
Is gastric botox safe in Turkey?
Search for stomach botox in Turkey and you'll probably find news from early 2023. European health agencies traced dozens of botulism cases back to people treated at two private hospitals here. In botulism the toxin acts well beyond where it was meant to, weakening muscles elsewhere in the body, sometimes severely. We'd rather raise it ourselves than have you find it afterwards. It's a fair reason to grill any clinic, us included.
No botulinum toxin product is licensed specifically for injection into the stomach, anywhere. Every clinic offering this is using a product off-label. Ask which brand they use and how many units go in. Ask who holds the endoscope. Write the answers down. A clinic that won't answer clearly isn't one to fly to.
The early signs of botulism tend to show in the face first. You might see double, or find your eyelids drooping by the afternoon. Speech can start to slur. Swallowing can get harder, then breathing. If any of that starts in the days or weeks after your procedure, go to an emergency department and tell them you've had botulinum toxin injected into your stomach.
The day of your gastric botox in Istanbul
Expect a fasting time the night before, since nobody gets sedated on a full stomach. The morning itself involves meeting the team. You'll also spend proper time with your dietitian, face to face, and we'd ask you not to rush it.
The procedure takes 15 to 20 minutes, under mild sedation, and most people remember very little of it. A thin camera goes in through the mouth, and the toxin is placed at several spots low down in the stomach. Coming round feels a bit like waking from a heavy nap. You'll stay with us until you're steady, then head back to the hotel. Don't plan on driving or signing anything important that afternoon.
Gastric botox side effects
Most people are back to themselves by the second day. You may feel a little sick at first, and your tummy can feel puffed up. Heartburn turns up for a few people and fades within the week. Your throat may be scratchy from the endoscope, though in most cases that's gone by the next morning.
Anything beyond that, and in particular the warning signs listed above, needs a call to us and to a local doctor.
Gastric botox results, month by month
People who've had gastric botox in Turkey usually tell us the first change came within days. Lunch looks the same size as ever but fills them up. Going back for seconds stops being tempting. The effect builds over the next few weeks and is strongest at about six weeks. After that it slowly fades, and by four to six months your stomach is emptying at its normal speed again.
The published figure is a loss of 10 to 20% of total body weight. That's total, not "excess". For someone weighing 90 kilos, it works out at roughly 9 to 18 kilos. Some people lose less. Gastric botox results depend heavily on what you eat during those months, and none of it is guaranteed. Studies of the procedure have also produced mixed findings, which is one more reason to treat it as a helping hand.
Making the six months count
This is the bit we care about most. The toxin buys you a few months when smaller portions feel natural. Whatever eating habits you build in that window are the only thing still working once it's gone.
A smaller plate is easiest to get used to while the toxin is doing some of the work. It's also a good time to notice which meals keep you going and which leave you hungry an hour later. Your dietitian stays in touch for twelve months, twice as long as the injection lasts, and the second half of that year is when it pays off.
Repeat gastric botox
You can have it again once the first course has worn off. The second round often does less than the first, though. If you find yourself planning a third, it's probably time for a different conversation, and our weight loss surgery page lays the other options side by side.
Gastric botox before and after photos
Changes after botox are modest by design, so don't expect the dramatic side-by-sides you see for surgery. When you look at our gastric botox before and after pictures, or anyone else's, check how long after the procedure the second photo was taken. A picture taken six weeks in, when the effect is strongest, says little about how things stand at month nine.
Gastric botox reviews tend to be most useful when they're written a year on, next to a before and after photo from the same point. Those are the ones that tell you whether the habits stuck, and whether the gastric botox results lasted.
Gastric botox cost and price in Turkey
The gastric botox price in Turkey is from €1,100, the lowest of our weight loss options. Protein shakes and vitamins can be added for €100. Your package covers a hotel next door to the clinic, a private driver and a nurse, plus twelve months of dietitian follow-up. Typical prices abroad run to several thousand euros, as the table above shows.
The cheapness is real. Still, the gastric botox cost in Turkey only makes sense when you weigh it against what the procedure can do for you. If a balloon or a sleeve would fit your BMI better, the lower price buys you less, and we'd rather say so up front.
Asking us for a gastric botox quote
Start with the basics, your height and weight. Then tell us about your health and whatever medicines are in your cupboard. Weight loss injections you've tried before are worth a mention as well. Our Istanbul team will tell you whether gastric botox in Turkey fits your BMI and your eating pattern, or whether something else would serve you better.
