Breast Reduction Turkey

Ask women who've had a reduction what changed first, and very few mention the mirror. They talk about the shoulders. Bra straps that used to cut red grooves by evening stop doing it. A run becomes possible without two sports bras on top of each other. Shirts button up. That's why breast reduction in Turkey is often a question about comfort before it's a question about looks.

Could the NHS or your insurer pay for it?

Check this before you compare any prices, ours included. Heavy breasts hurt, and doctors know it. That's why, out of everything on our breast list, a reduction is the only operation some public health systems will pay for.

The criteria differ from one country to the next and get revised every few years. Commonly they want your symptoms on record with your GP. Some set a minimum amount of tissue to be removed from each side. Some have a weight limit, and many expect you to have tried properly fitted bras and physiotherapy first. If you qualify at home, that may be the better route. If you don't, or the waiting list runs into years, that's when travelling starts to make sense.

The symptoms a reduction can ease

Neck and upper back ache is the classic one. Then there's the strap grooving, and the rash that comes back every summer in the fold underneath. Plenty of women also describe giving up sports they loved, or hunching to make the chest look smaller.

Most of these get better, sometimes within days of surgery, long before the swelling has gone. Be realistic about pain that has several causes, though. A reduction takes the weight away. If the discs in your neck have already worn, that wear stays. Years of curling the shoulders forward also leave a habit, and habits fade slowly.

Picking a new cup size

Most people arrive with a cup size in mind. It's a reasonable place to start, but bra sizes vary so much between brands that a surgeon can't plan from one. The amount removed is worked out in grams per side, from how wide your chest is, how tall and how solidly built you are, and how dense the breast tissue feels.

Within that range we lean towards leaving a little more. Here's why. A breast that's still slightly bigger than you'd hoped can be reduced again later. One that's been made too small can only be built back up with an implant, and that brings a device into a body that never had one. Taking more also means moving the nipple further, and the further it travels, the harder it is to keep its blood supply healthy.

The free nipple graft, explained

In very large reductions the nipple sometimes has to travel further than its own tissue can safely carry it. Then the surgeon removes it, thins it and places it back as a graft, a bit like a skin graft.

It usually takes well. But the nipple loses its feeling for good, breastfeeding becomes impossible, and the colour often lightens. It's only used when there's no safer way. If your case looks likely to need it, you'll be told in writing before you book, because some women decide against surgery at that point, and that's a choice we want you to make with the facts in front of you.

Breastfeeding after breast reduction

Milk is made in the breast tissue that a reduction removes, and most techniques cut through some of the ducts too. So the outcome varies. Many women feed after a reduction. Plenty find they make less milk. Some can't feed at all. There's no test that tells you in advance which group you'll fall into.

Feeling in the nipple is a similar story. Expect it to be dull for a while. Most of it usually comes back, but not always all of it. And if more children are on the way soon, think about waiting. Pregnancy would change the result anyway.

Should you lose weight first?

If you still have a lot of weight to lose, that's worth doing before the operation. Breast size tends to drop along with everything else. Plan the reduction too early and, once you hit your target, it may turn out we took more than you needed.

That doesn't mean you need to be slim. You need to be steady. A weight you've held for several months is the one we plan around.

Breast reduction recovery

After breast reduction in Turkey, the hospital night comes first, then a few days that most women describe as heavy and sore across the chest. It's more of a drag than sharp pain. The surgical bra goes on in theatre and stays on until you're told otherwise, and underwired bras are off the menu for a while. Overhead lifting is the restriction people forget first, usually when they reach for a suitcase at the airport.

If your job is mostly emails and meetings, you could be working again within the week. Sport is another matter. We usually say six weeks for the gym, the pool or a jog, though your surgeon will look at how you're healing before giving a date. Plenty of our patients have told us their first run afterwards was the moment it all made sense.

The usual scar pattern is the anchor. It circles the areola, drops straight down and then runs along the crease. For the first few months it's at its angriest, red and a little raised. By about a year it has usually flattened and gone pale. Look closely and you'll always be able to spot it. Silicone gel, or the stick-on silicone sheets, tends to help it end up flatter. The tissue we remove goes to a lab as standard. Keep up with your normal breast screening afterwards too.

Pictures show how the breasts look. Our patients mention their shoulders far more often than their looks, though, and no camera picks that up. Breast reduction cost and price in Turkey

The breast reduction price in Turkey on our list is €3,500, and that includes the lift. There's no extra charge for removing more tissue, so nothing in the price nudges the plan towards bigger or smaller. A night on the ward and the anaesthetic are part of it, along with airport transfers, an interpreter and a year of follow-up. Hotels aren't included. Ours start from €75 a night, and you'll be in Istanbul for six nights in all.

Paying privately in the UK usually costs somewhere between €9,200 and €12,800. In the US the average is around €9,000, though insurance makes those figures hard to compare.
