Why a small columellar incision can give the best control, and what it means for healing.
Open rhinoplasty is a rhinoplasty technique in which a small incision is made across the columella, the strip of skin between the nostrils, in addition to incisions inside the nose. This allows the surgeon to lift the skin and see the nasal cartilage and framework directly.
Open rhinoplasty is commonly recommended when the nasal tip needs significant reshaping, structural support or cartilage grafts, and for many revision cases. Direct visibility allows grafts to be placed and secured with greater precision. Twisted or asymmetric tips often benefit from this approach as well.
Closed rhinoplasty uses only incisions inside the nostrils and leaves no external scar, while open rhinoplasty adds a small columellar incision for better visibility. The choice depends on the changes needed, particularly at the nasal tip. Both approaches are priced the same at Natural Clinic.
